Julia Zuza of Response For Life shows us how to use the HeartSine Samaritan 500P with CPR Advisor for real-time feedback with this HeartSine Samaritan 500P Guide. It is proven to improve CPR quality with this feedback to ultimately save more lives. (The HeartSine SAM 500P unit used in the video is a training unit, which is why it has a yellow face)
Step 1: Call for medical assistance and remove clothing from patients bare chest to expose bare skin.
Before using the HeartSine Samaritan 500p, Call 000 to send for medical assistance.
Then remove any clothing that would obstruct placing the pads (electrodes on the bare skin).
Step 2: Turn on the HeartSine 500P
Press the green on button to turn on the HeartSine 500P.
Step 3: Pull green tab to remove pads
Pull the green tab located at the base of the defibrillator.
Step 4: Peel pads from liner and apply pads to the patients chest.
Apply pads to patients bare chest as shown in the pictures, place pads firmly to their bare skin.
Step 5: Defib will analyse the patient and advise you not to touch them.
Listen to the HeartSine 500P (as shown in video above) and allow the AED to analyse the patient.
Step 6: If shock is advised by the HeartSine 500P – Press the shock button.
After the AED has analysed the patient, a shock may be advised.
If a shock is advised the AED will say:
- “Stand clear of patient. Shock advised.”
- “Press the orange shock button now.”
Step 7: Shock has been delivered, begin CPR.
If the patient still has no signs of life, the HeartSine Samaritan 500P will advise you to begin CPR and talk you through the process.
Unit may advise instructions:
- “It is safe to touch the patient”
- “Begin CPR”, “Place overlapping hands in the middle of the chest, press directly down on the chest in time with metronome (beep)”.
- “Remain calm, push harder.”
- “Push faster”
- “Push slower”
- “Good compressions”
The HeartSine 500P uses the built in CPR adviser to give real time feedback based on your compressions.
GREAT WORK: Continue following the HeartSine Samaritan 500P’s instructions.
Continue to follow the AEDs instructions until medical assistance arrives or the patient has been revived.
